Physical Fitness

This program focuses on including all levels of fitness, regardless of ability and mobility. Living a healthy lifestyle is taught through a variety of cardio and weight training methods including the treadmill, elliptical, stationary bikes, weightlifting machines, hand weights, yoga mats, and resistance bands.

In this program, participants will have the opportunity to utilize both in-house and community resources to aid in their fitness journey. Our in-house fitness program includes light weight training, cardiovascular exercises, body weight strength training, dance, relaxation exercises and stretching. Our community fitness program utilizes community resource centres and its equipment, swimming pools, and instructor-led fitness classes.


Healthy living and nutrition awareness are discussed in the Fitness and Nutrition program here at Alternatives. The nutrition aspect of the fitness program teaches how, and why it is important to live a healthy lifestyle. We follow and practice the Canadian food guide, understand portion control, engage in community cooking classes, and research and create healthy recipes in-house.
